Matheus França, a Brazilian bass, received his musical education at the University of Brasília, standing out by completing his Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral and Choral Conducting with excellence. During this period, he refined his studies in Classical Singing under the guidance of the renowned Professor Dr. Irene Bentley.
Matheus’ first foray into the world of operas took place at the university, participating in productions such as ‘La Serva Padrona’ by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’ by Gioacchino Rossini. This experience inspired his approach to concert-format titles, including ‘Vesperae Solennes’ by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, ‘Choral Fantasia’ by Ludwig Van Beethoven, ‘Requiem’ by Mozart, among other works. Throughout this period, he received encouragement and guidance from renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Stojan Kuret, Dietmar Wiedemann, Roberto Minczuk, among others.
In 2014, he joined the Lyrical Choir of the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, Brazil, marking the beginning of his solo career. Under the guidance of prominent figures in the global opera scene, such as Kurt Rydl, Luiz-Ottavio Faria, and Marianne Cornetti, he experienced remarkable growth in the solo landscape, debuting as Zaccaria in the opera ‘Nabucco’ and later as Nourabad in ‘Les Pêcheurs de Perles’ by Bizet. Since then, he has succeeded in expanding his international career, starting in Europe with the opera ‘La Forza del Destino,’ playing the role of Padre Guardiano, and continuing to interpret prominent roles such as Sarastro, Fafner, Hunding, King René, Basilio, Zaccaria, Grand Inquisitor, and others of singular relevance in the bass repertoire.
